Roma lined up in a 4-3-3 with Stephan El Sharaawy, Edin Dzeko and Diego Perotti up top.
Chelsea reverted to their familiar 3-4-3 with Rudiger, Luiz and Cahill in center back, and Cesar Azpilicueta shifted out to right back. Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko started in midfield.
It was a slightly less compact, defensive setup than expected from Chelsea – they were away from home and top of the group – Roma needed a win much more than they did.
Either way, Antonio Conte would soon find out whether or not it was right tactical setup for this game. […]
By, Ayodeji Itsami (Twitter: @aryhorblueblood) Stadio Olimpico/October 31, 2017 We seemed to have finally turned a corner after recent wobbles but there isn’t a respite yet as the big matches keeps piling up with two in two different competitions this week. We face AS Roma in the Champions’ League on Tuesday and then we […]

Chelsea travelled to Dorset for their Premier League game against AFC Bournemouth. It was only the second away game of their five fixtures in October.
Under normal circumstances, the EPL champions would have been favourites for this fixture – they were 5th and Bournemouth 19th as at the start of play. But Chelsea had been well beaten by the bottom club in the league, Crystal Palace, in their other away game this month.
In fact, they had not kept a single clean sheet in October, conceding an average of 2 goals per game across their other four fixtures. If they were to have any hope of retaining their title, Chelsea would have to start defending better and find some winning form pretty soon. […]
By, Ayodeji Itasanmi (Twitter: @aryhorblueblood) Vitality Stadium/October 28, 2017 We’re beginning to rack up the wins that our players’ confidence needed but more importantly than that we need to continue pile the pressure on the league leaders with two on the trot. Like us, AFC Bournemouth hasn’t had it easy in the league […]

Chelsea faced a pretty tough examination from their visitors in the second half. Caballero was absolutely the man of the match for me. There’s no hiding from the facts – put this Chelsea team under pressure, and without N’golo Kante, David Luiz or similar players in midfield, they will fold.
In fact, they did fold over and over this game, but Caballero showed a bit more experience and quality perhaps than Courtois had in some other challenging games this season, and held the line until their attacking quality won them the match. […]
By, Ayodeji Itasanmi (Twitter: @aryhorblueblood) Stamford Bridge/October 25, 2017 This is the last of our three consecutive home matches in three different competitions with a win and a draw to show for our efforts in the previous two matches. Everton decided on Monday to cut their losses on Ronald Koeman by showing the Dutchman […]
Michy Batshuayi has been a little bit of an enigma since he arrived at Chelsea. He’s young and has all the tools to be a top striker, but so far most times they’ve started him, he’s made all the wrong choices and been almost completely ineffective.
When he’s brought on as a sub though, he’s sometimes… completely unplayable. It’s not just that he’s better against tired defenders, he actually plays better all round – his movement is much better and his finishing is lethal.
Maybe it’s a language issue, so when he comes on as a sub he’s had time to figure out for himself what the game needs? Either way, Chelsea definitely got Good Michy today. […]
By, Ayodeji Itasanmi (Twitter: @aryhorblueblood) Stamford Bridge/October 21, 2017 The task at hand continues to be a daunting one with key personnel still missing from the team, none more so than Kante and Moses whose was felt on Wednesday night. It’s such a good thing that our next three games following the poor showing […]
