By, Ayodeji Itasanmi (Twitter: @aryhorblueblood) Overview When Sean Dyche’s Burnley side raced to a 3-0 lead at Stamford Bridge in the opening match of this season’s Premier League action, our minds raced back to that infamous 2015/2016 season especially with the Chelsea board finding it hard to get in the players needed to strengthen the […]
Chelsea were in Norfolk county for their FA Cup third round game v Norwich City FC. Norwich were in thirteenth place in the Championship with twenty-two games played, just two points behind “Old Farm” rivals Ipswich Town in twelfth.
Chelsea were a full thirty places ahead of their hosts, third in the premier league, a point behind Manchester United and two ahead of Liverpool FC.
Norwich and Chelsea had last met in the premier league, back in 2015/16, before Norwich were relegated to the EFL Championship. The Blues beat the Canaries 1 – 0 at home and 2 – 1 away that season. Diego Costa scored the winning goal both games, while Chelsea prospect Kenedy recorded a memorable strike the first minute of the away game. Nathan Redmond scored Norwich’s only goal of the two fixtures.
Norwich midfielders Marco Stiepermann and Harrison Reed both missed this game through injury. Chelsea’s Eden Hazard was also unavailable, with a minor injury from their midweek match at the Emirates.
There was some good news though: David Luiz started for Chelsea after two months out with a knee injury. Charly Musonda had also recovered from a groin injury, and was on the bench today. […]
By, Ayodeji Itasanmi (Twitter: @aryhorblueblood) Carrow Road/January 6, 2017 I must confess I’m still suffering from the hangover from Wednesday night’s disappointment at the Emirates Stadium because I still couldn’t fathom how we didn’t leave North London with all three points in the bag after such an impressive performance, but I guess that’s […]
By, Navaneeth Ravichandran (Twitter: @navrav28) Chelsea have made their first big splash of the January transfer window, signing Everton player Ross Barkley for what I believe to be a bargain at 15 million pounds. The 24-year old English midfielder will join the Blues and wear number 8 (can you think of another English midfielder […]
Arsenal were down in sixth place, seven points behind Chelsea in third, six points behind Liverpool in the last Champions League spot – this particular derby was a must win game for them.
The game started at a relatively moderate pace, and Chelsea had the better early chances. But after referee Anthony Taylor wrongly gave a free kick for a Lacazette dive off a Kante tackle, the Arsenal players seemed to gain confidence and started ripping into their visitors at pace.
Chelsea responded with their own counterattacks, and the game devolved into an attacking free-for-all, with both sides creating brilliant chances, and only failing to score in the first half due to the dazzling form of their goalkeepers. Or in Chelsea’s case, finishing so weak, it made you scratch your head. […]
By, Ayodeji Itasanmi (Twitter: @aryhorblueblood) Emirates Stadium/January 3, 2017 Happy New Year Folks! 2017 couldn’t have ended on a sweeter note for anybody associated with Chelsea Football Club than with a sweet 5-0 victory over an unusually subdued Stoke City side but as is customary in the Premier League, especially during the festive […]
