The Future of Chelsea's Captaincy

The Future of Chelsea's Captaincy

Not long ago our best defender seemed to be Terry; it was worrying for a team of Chelsea’s caliber to depend on a 36year old to spearhead the club into renaissance. Conte has started his revolution well and he has the captain’s backing (from the bench) if we go by the recent interviews he’s given.  Chelsea now have a daunting task of finding the heir to Terry’s captaincy. So who should take over from Terry when time finally dawns on his illustrious Chelsea career?

CAHILL?

One would say Chelsea already have  a captain spearheading them to renaissance, but again, some would argue and say he’s the quagmire in our defense if not in the squad. If renaissance is to go by, Cahill has somehow rediscovered himself after being moved to the left of the back three.  He’ll never be a JT but he has chance to enhance his Chelsea legacy by providing the leadership to a new Chelsea. If Conte subscribes to the American Saying (if it’s not broken don’t fix it)  then the captaincy won’t be altered anytime soon.

FABREGAS?

Two seasons ago you’d argue Cesc was one of the leading candidates for the captaincy, He has all the fight you’d want in a leader.  He’s not one to throw tantrums when things don’t go his way but rather he fights for the shirt and his place with serenity. He’s captained a premier league team (Arsenal) before and he wouldn’t need adjusting. But before that, Cesc needs to get grip of his place in the starting eleven before he can dream of becoming the frontier of a new Chelsea.

LUIZ?

Even in his first stint, no one would doubt he embodied leadership and coming back in his second stint he’s looked an even better player. Him and Cahill are the only mainstays in the current eleven from that historic night in Munich and  one would argue if Chelsea have conquer Europe again, they’d need the traits of that incredible night in Munich.  Luiz perfectly signifies that and you’d feel he’s the most bonafide leader in the squad if we were to exclude Terry.

CONCLUSION

You’d make a strong case for Hazard, Zouma, and probably Ivanovic if he was to rediscover his form. That said, Chelsea future Captain will be either in continuity with Cahill: which is the most likely or it’ll fall to the aforementioned Candidates.  Not only is our future bright, but you can argue we have able personnel to take over from Terry eventually.
